Portable Basketball Systems in the Driveway can provide Exercise and Fun
Portable basketball systems set up in the driveway can provide fun and exercise. If you are a serious player, a permanent system would be more stable.
There are 3 types of systems:
2. Inground (permanent)
3. Backboards that can be mounted on the side of the house or garage
Portable systems are popular, because they can easily be moved around. The system includes a pole, base, backboard and rim. Portable systems are not as sturdy as permanent systems.
The base can be filled with water or sand. Capacity range is about 40-55 gallons. Some bases have wheels for easier movement. Sand weighs more and makes the base more stable. Water is easier to fill and empty. Water needs to emptied during cold winter months to prevent freezing.
Backboards come in a variety of materials like glass, plastic, graphite and composite materials. Most backboards have a steel frame for support. Backboard sizes range from 40 inches to 72 inches and have mostly a rectangular shape.
Basketball rims are 18 inches in diameter. Many rims have a breakaway feature, which releases the rim when pressure is put on. An all weather nylon net is usually included.
Many residential systems allow a height adjustment. The most common adjustment ranges from 7.5 feet to 10 feet.
