Variety of
outdoor Basketball Hoops

Outdoor basketball hoops can consist of 3 types.
1. Portable systems
2. Inground (permanent) systems
3. Backboards that can be installed on the side of the house or garage

A portable system consists of a base, pole, backboard and rim. The base can be filled with water or sand. The base can have wheels for easy movement. Capacity of the base is usually 40-55 gallons.

The pole often has an adjustment feature that allows the height to be adjusted from 7.5 feet to 10 feet.

The surface of backboards can be glass, plastic, graphite or a composite material. Most backboards have a steel frame for support. The shape of the backboards is generally rectangular and the size ranges from 40 inches to 72 inches.

Basketball rims are 18 inches in diameter and most have a breakaway feature. An all weather nylon net is usually included.

Inground systems are cemented in a hole. Some have an anchoring system that allows the system to be moved. Inground systems require more work than portable hoops, but they are more stable.
